Sticking to your 2018 Fitness goals. Stop thinking of it as New Years Resolution..it is a lifestyle change. Think LONG term not Short Term.
Balance..the key to all movements. Tomorrow, January 30 I will be discussing balance training on Charlotte Today at 11am on NBC.
So, here we are..August 26 and I'm asking myself where did the summer go??? Did I have days of sleeping in, laying around the pool on a hot summer day, lazy days around the house, meeting friends for lunch, long weekends at the beach?? Ummm, no..I didn't get any of that shit. WTF happened to my summer? I did have a fab few days with my hubby in San Francisco (where I took classes at the TRX Training Center..more on that later) and we went to wine country in Napa and Sonoma. We also took a family trip to Myrtle Beach in July...we had a great time but it's not the same as going to Saint Thomas, Saint John or our beloved family destination Destin, Florida. But, we got to relax for 3 days by the pool/beach and played Cards Against Humanity with the boys (plus the oldest gf). Yes, we are that family!
At the end of June I had the opportunity to attend a work trip with my hubby to San Francisco and Sonoma. Once I found out I would be two days in San Francisco that was it..I was on a mission. I took not ONE but TWO classes at the TRX Training Facility. This is their headquarters..like the place where all the genius minds get together and talk nothing but TRX. Downstairs is the TRX room..they can fit close to 100 people and it is just a different vibe..all TRX..everything is Yellow and Black. LOVE IT!! I played it real cool..the girl who helped me get registered for classes while I was still here in Charlotte took my first class with me and it was freaking awesome! I was in the zone. Halfway through the workout she says to me, "Randy is here and we can go upstairs and meet him"...in my head I'm screaming.."Fuck YES" but I simply say, "that would be awesome". Now, if you don't know who Randy Henrick is then you can just move on or look it up because we just can't be friends. After the class she took me upstairs and yes, I met Randy and the rest of the education staff. Such an amazing experience and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity. The rest of the trip we drank wine, and more wine..end of story..lol!
And now, I sit here end of August, school starting Monday and what did I do all summer? I trained clients starting at 5am, I coached TRX and Barre classes and oh yes..organized band camp volunteers and helped with band uniforms. Yes! Here we go..marching band season. Unless I train you or see you in class I probably will not be seen until mid-November.
TRX is da bomb! TRX is total body suspension training that will work your core like no other piece of equipment. That's why it is called "ALL CORE ALL THE TIME".
On Saturday our local high school hosted an Indoor Color Guard and Percussion competition. Throughout the day we had 69 local schools and private groups come to our school to perform their show and hopefully spend some money at our concessions. (trust me, we need all the money we can get for band). Now, notice key words here..indoor..color guard (they dance, twirl flags, swords, rifles)...percussion (keyboard, drums, cymbals, marching). Did any of my words include CONTACT SPORT??? Well, what if I told you we had to call the freaking paramedics not once but four times!! Yes, four times! It has to be a record. I almost lost my shit. So you may be asking yourself, why would color guard girls pass out, have anxiety attacks, asthma attacks and blow a knee out? Well, let me just tell you..they take twirling flags seriously. Like, it's the end of the world if they drop anything! No, you don't understand. They will cry their ass off for hours over dropping a flag until someone, mainly their director goes over in their face and tells them to get it together, it's not the end of the world. But to them it is. Poor things. So, they practice, practice, practice all day and they don't eat correctly or hydrate throughout the day. Plus, it was hot on Saturday and they practice outside. The performance is inside in the gym. As soon as they perform, the body shuts down and BOOM! They go down like bowling pins. Somebody call 911..another color guard girl is down. Later in the day after awards and before the gym was cleared another one blew her knee out while just twirling around with her friends. Somebody call 911! Again, for the 4th fucking time. Seriously, I can't make this shit up. Again, my life as a reality show. Then, while they have knee girl on the stretcher another one goes down in the bathroom. WTF? I've been at this school since 6am someone please let this shit end. Now, please don't think I'm talking bad about color guard. I love our color guard girls. You will never know how many hours they practice to prepare for their show. Yes, they cry at the drop of a flag but I love those girls. They even let me give them pep talks before they take the floor. You ready for it? Here is my pep talk.."Don't suck as bad as you did last time". boom! what? I'm just keeping it real. So, overall we had a great day besides keeping the paramedics busy for the day. Let me just make it clear that no paramedic was called out during the time the percussion groups attended in the evening. Hmmm! why is that? btw, little b performed with his group and scored their highest score yet!
It was a long ass day. sorry this post has nothing to do with fitness. i did talk some people out of the funnel cake..don't they know it has 760 calories and 44grams of fat. that shit will go right to your ass! I know. hubby tells me all the time i take the fun out of eating. too bad. somebody has to tell the peeps just what they are eating. we had a nice little fit-bit contest between the band moms. I of course forgot to charge mine and I'm not sure who won but i do know our director walked 17 miles that day. crazy right???
welcome to my band world!
Today is the day! March 8, 2016 is the day I'm launching my training website. I chose the 8th because I consider the number 8 to be my lucky number. Both of my boys were born on the 8th day of the month. When I first thought of the idea for a website I knew for sure I wanted a blog page. Everyone is always telling me I could be my own reality show. I'm not sure why..is it because I'm running around teaching classes, training clients, dealing with band crap (I'm the president of our high school band program), keeping up with the house, 2 teenage boys and my hubby??? Or is it because I'm always speaking the truth, keeping things "real" when I should just shut my mouth? Either way, I'm glad to finally launch my website and my blog page.
I will always try and make you laugh, give you information and give you insight on what goes on in my crazy head each day..lol! I'm keeping this first blog nice, short and sweet and leaving you with 3 details about myself.
1. I'm married to my high school sweetheart. I've known my sweetie since I was 14 years old and this October we will celebrate 26 years together. Yes, we are still in love and he is my best friend.
2. I have 2 boys and they are both drummers...lucky me. My Oldest son, Big B played in the high school marching band and now college and Little B is following along right in his footsteps. Hence the reason I'm president of the Band Board. Go me! No, seriously, if someone suggest you become the president of anything you run your ass away! Trust me, more blogs about band will follow.
3. I like to curse and change the color of my hair. So, right now it is purple..next month it could be blue.
So, here's the deal. I am not perfect. I struggle just like you to make good choices each and every day. Like last night for dinner I had popcorn and a glass of wine. Why? I don't know. I'm tired people. I don't have a cook (Lord knows I could use one) and I don't have a house cleaner (well, I sorta do because the hubs loves to clean). I know, I'm lucky! I can be your best friend or your worst nightmare. But, one thing is for sure, I'll always tell you the truth, give you a good laugh and make you believe in yourself.
